If you’re visiting Chicago anytime soon – or a Chicago resident, for that matter – do yourself a favor and stop by The Signature Room at the 95th. The Signature Room is a swanky restaurant nestled right on the 95th floor of the John Hancock building just north of downtown Chicago. While a full course meal become pretty pricey, I’d even suggest just stopping by for drinks and an appetizer to take in the breathtaking views of the Chicago skyline – apparently the women’s restroom has the best views in the whole place. The decor around the restaurant and lounge highlight notable moments in Chicago’s history – making the whole experience very true to Chitown.
We kicked off the dining experience with drinks, appetizers, and sourdough bread. [what meal is complete without a roll or two?] I started with a Dirty Martini – garnished with blue cheese stuffed olives – and it was honestly one of the best martinis I’ve ever had. The flavor blend between the salty & bitter flavors of the cocktail were mixed to perfection. The Ahi Tuna Tartare and Potato Gnocchi served as great starters to the meal. The tuna and avocado were very fresh, while the combination of sweet potatoes and Yukon potatoes in the gnocchi were a delectable mix of sweet and savory.
For my main course, I decided on the Seafood Risotto after much debate and I did not regret my decision. The scallops were the ideal amount of buttery and provided a rich flavor profile. It was almost hard to finish my entree after the appetizers, but I was determined to see it through. All in all, the entire meal was top notch and I left feeling very satisfied.
If my budget allowed – I’d be a regular patron at The Signature Room at the 95th, however, that is not the reality that I live in. Needless to say, I hope that I’ll make another visit very soon!
