Neighborhood: Logan Square
One could seem to believe that brunch is the only meal that I eat out – I can neither confirm, nor deny that fact…With that being said – Longman & Eagle in Logan Square has a pretty bangin’ brunch menu. The wait at L&E can be quite lengthy & they don’t take reservations – but luckily I was able to grab a spot at the bar & only waited a total of about 10 minutes.
No brunch is complete without a cocktail. A signature drink on the Longman & Eagle brunch menu is the Beermosa – comprised of Hacker-Pschorr Weisse & OJ. While I love a Bloody Mary or classic Mimosa in the morning, I thought I’d mix things up & indulge in a Beermosa. Honestly, the OJ & beer portions were so perfect that it barely felt like I was drinking a Hefeweizen – instead the drink was a refreshing delight.
For the main event, I faced the classic brunch struggle – savory vs. sweet. This has got to be on of life’s greatest queries. Spoiler alert: I went the sweet route. This was a choice I did not regret. The Challah French Toast was delectable and I enjoyed every bite. The candied pecans plus the dulce de leche, clotted cream, & banana carmel toppings polished off the dish oh-so-perfectly. My brunch-mate decided to go the savory route & ordered the Black Rice Risotto – topped with smoked salmon & a poached egg. The menu options were endless!
All in all, Longman & Eagle offers a great menu for both brunch & dinner. Although, the wait can be a buzzkill – I’d suggest trying to snag a seat at the bar or having drinks nearby while you wait for a table. Longman & Eagle even offers a few rooms for an overnight stay – just in case you have a few too many drinks.
