Now that I am officially a Chicago resident, I’m diving right into the Chicago food scene – which has A LOT to offer. Naturally, my first Chitown foodie feature is a pizza joint!
Pizza Rustica Italian Bistro & Bar is a casual bistro restaurant nestled right in Wrigleyville – my new ‘hood. The inside of the restaurant is very quaint & cozy – I almost forgot that it was 30 degrees outside. I stopped by with my parents in tow on a Saturday afternoon & surprisingly, there was no wait and quite a bit of empty tables.
Luckily we made it just in the nick of time to catch the tail end of the Weekend Lunch menu, featuring $1 oysters and a $7 loaded Bloody Mary bar – which could be the sole reason that I return to Pizza Rustica. If you choose to go the Bloody Mary bar route – and why wouldn’t you? – the bartender fills your glasses about 3/4 of the way full with your choice of Tito’s or Ketel One vodka. Now you’re all set to make your way to the loaded bar where you’ll find things like cocktail shrimp, cheese, salami, olives, and a plethora of spices to create your very own delicious Bloody Mary. At this point I’d almost forgotten that we ordered food.
The $1 oysters were very fresh & did not disappoint either. The horseradish sauce served alongside the oysters added an extra kick & really pumped up the flavor.
For the main course, we ordered the whole sized Tutta pizza which was enough to easily feed 5-6 pizza. The pizza had the perfect amount of red sauce and was topped with sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, black olives, mozzarella, and bleu cheese – need I say more? The crust was very light and fluffy – as well as perfectly buttery. It was oh-so-hard to back away from the pizza, even after I was stuffed.
All in all, I’d say that Pizza Rustica definitely hit the mark from drinks to appetizers to, of course, pizzas. I’m already counting down to my next Pizza Rustica visit!
